Kimberly and her family were watching a football game at their Syracuse, New York, home when they heard an unsettling noise.
The first-floor toilet was gurgling.
“We were sitting in the living room and watching the game, when we heard it,” Kimberly said. “We knew what it was – it had made the same noise when it happened the last time, so we knew it was a sewer issue.”
Kimberly and her family had dealt with a sewer line issue three years prior, and she was so concerned that all thoughts of football fled her mind.
“I don’t even know who won,” she admitted.
Kimberly had chosen to protect her plumbing service lines with emergency home repair plans from HomeServe. She had purchased coverage for her internal plumbing and her water and sewer service lines. Kimberly would shortly learn that decision would save her thousands of dollars.
Five years ago, Kimberly received a letter from HomeServe, and she and her husband discussed the coverage, especially since their home was older.
“We decided that, for the amount of money we’d pay, we should just do it,” she said.
She made the call to HomeServe.
“I got the automated service first and made an appointment,” she said. “I thought about it for a minute, called back and asked to talk to a human. We had to limit our water use because it’s a sewer issue and I didn’t want to call back in a week and find out I didn’t have an appointment. The person I spoke to was very helpful and said, ‘yes, I see that you have an appointment already scheduled by Charlie.’ And, by the time I hung up the phone, I had an email saying that my claim was being processed and I would hear from the contractor soon.” Rudy Plumbing, a local, licensed, insured and qualified plumber, was dispatched, and the sewer line was first augered, then a camera was run through the line. That led to the discovery that the cast iron sewer line was broken and eight feet of the line would have to be replaced, as well as the clean out.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Syracuse soon arrived to excavate her sewer line and make the repair, and Kimberly saved $5,300 on the repair.
“I was happy with the service,” she said.
Kimberly wouldn’t have to worry about missing the next football game.
